Lundmark & Jenkins extend leads
Thunderstorms ruled the earlier part of the day for most of the third round of the Scandinavian Open but sunny skies eventually prevailed for the lead groups on the back nine during the third round of the Scandinavian Open in Skelleftea Sweden. The sizable gallery of spectators were not at all disappointed that they stayed to brave the weather as some fantastic shot making was witnessed by all.

Jussi Meresmaa had the hot round (-8) Saturday and is in fourth place
Jesper Lundmark entered the round with a slim two stroke lead but extended his lead to four throws over second by shooting a -6. The quiet Swede has looked very comfortable all week competing against the best players in the world in his home country for the first time. His nine stroke win over the visiting Americans just one week ago in Stockholm has to have him confident going into the final 18 holes on at Disc Golf Terminalen. Dave Feldberg couldn’t quite keep pace with Jesper and carded a -4 to maintain second place. Nate Doss moved into a tie for second with Feldberg by tossing in a -6, but with a four stroke deficit and only 18 holes remaining, the visiting Americans will have their work cut out for them if either one is to claim their first European Major title. Jussi Meresmaa had the hottest score of the day in the Open division with a -8. The current world distance champion from Tampere Finland sits in fourth place five throws behind second and nine off the lead.
Valarie Jenkins carded the best score of the day in the women’s division with a +2 to extend her lead to six throws over Sweden’s, Birgittta Lagerholm. The current women’s world champion is looking relaxed, strong and confident walking the fairways and she looks to be in control of her own destiny. Carrie Berlogar had her hottest round of the tournament and turned in a +4 on the day to move into a tie for third place with Ragna Bygde, ten throws off the lead. Ragna had the shot of the day when her 170 foot second shot on hole 14 slammed chains and came to rest in the bottom of the basket in front of a loud and appreciative crowd.
In the Masters division, Terry Roddy of Baltimore Maryland, carded the low score of the day in that division with a -1 to move him onto the lead card for the finals. Jonas Lindholm shot a +1 to maintain his three throw lead over Peter Bygde with 18 holes remaining. Dan Johannson also turned in a +1 to move into third place nine throws off the lead and six throws off second.
Cloudy skies this morning are expected to clear prior to the lead groups teeing off in the afternoon. A good sized gallery has been in attendance all week and will witness quite a show today. Expect the home crowd to be pulling for Jesper to claim the European Major in his home town.
